Our multiplication ring is a great learning tool to use with your children that teaches so much. As you go about winding the yarn around the ring, it creates different patterns depending on whether you count by ones, twos, threes, and so on. On the ring, if you skip every other peg as you count by twos, the yarn comes back to the top having created a pentagon and shows how dividing ten pegs by two equals five--the five-sided pentagon. Discovering what each number forms is a delight. The middle peg gives you an opportunity to explore fractions as well.

Little hands are kept busy stretching rubber bands across the ring or winding it up with yarn, building fine motor skills and dexterity. Older children will enjoy the hands-on mathematical experience. When passing by the top "0", continue using the numbers as the ones place as you count. So, winding around by 2's, you'll count 2, 4, 6, 8, and the zero becomes 10. If you continue, now the next two is 12 and then 14 and so on. There are videos you can find on YouTube to help learn more on how to use these. Or, simply play with it yourself and see what happens.
